DESCRIPTION:February 20 – 24\, 2020\nWe invite you to join us in prayers to clear obstacles in the coming year. The dates of the chanting practices are listed below. To confirm starting times for chanting\, please call close to each event (845-297-2500). \nFebruary 20 (Thursday)\n\n9:00 am | Mahakala Chanting (Tsendring\, the extended version of the Protector Bernachen practice)\nThese extended Mahakala prayers are performed to clear away obstacles for the new year.  Bernachen swore an oath to protect the Buddha’s teachings.  As the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa has taught\, Bernachen and the Karmapa are inseparable. \nFebruary 21 (Friday)\n\n9:00 am | Mahakala Chanting (Tsendring\, the extended version of the Protector Bernachen practice) with Long Life Ritual (Chiblu) \nChiblu\, a vajrayana ritual\, is a profound means to avert obstacles to long life. \nFebruary 22 ( Saturday)\n\n9:00 am | Mahakala Chanting (Tsendring\, the extended version of the Protector Bernachen practice) and Evening Fire Offering (Sür)\nThe evening fire offering averts obstacles and sickness\, clears away karmic debts\, and is dedicated to those who are dying and deceased.\n \nFebruary 24 (Monday)| Losar Day – First Day of the Tibetan New Year \n5:00 am | Welcome in the New Year with the traditional playing of instruments and offering the white offering scarves (katas) to the shrines.\n6:00 am | Morning Fire Offering (Sang)\nThis special morning purification fire ceremony is an offering to all worldly gods and the 4 guests: Buddhas & Bodhisattvas; Protectors; sentient beings; and those with whom we have karmic debts. This practice pacifies war\, encourages peace and averts sickness.  \n \nThere are many ways to participate in these auspicious activities. During all of these dates\, the shrine room is open to the public. Everyone is welcome to join us for any amount of time. Additionally\, it is possible to sponsor the chanting. \nFor those who wish to sponsor the chanting\, donations can be made towards meals\, fire offering ceremonies\, or the tea served during the chanting. General contributions towards these special practices are also welcome. Be sure to include a prayer with your donation which will be read aloud to the assembly. \nYou may make your donations on-line or simply mail your tax-deductible contribution to: \nPalpung Thubten Chöling\nAttn: Office\n245 Sheafe Road\, Wappingers Falls\, NY 12590. \nPlease make checks payable to Kagyu Thubten Choling or KTC.  For credit card payments (VISA or MasterCard)\, mail a credit card charge form to the above KTC address or fax it to (845) 297-5761.  For your protection\, please do not email your credit card information. \nAs we are not able to check email during chanting events\, please send your prayer request and sponsorship information 48 hours before the first day of chanting to guarantee that we receive it in time to announce your prayer. If you are not able to do that\, please leave a short but clear message of your prayer on  845-297-2500  and we will do our best to have your prayer announced. \nThere is no charge for attending the chanting but reservations are required one week in advance if you plan to join us for meals and/or need overnight accommodations. The karmic connection made to the Dharma and to the Three Year Retreat reaps mountains of merit and creates the conditions for participation in a Retreat in this or future lifetimes. \n10:00 am | Procession \n10:15 am | Ceremony \n\nChanting of Offerings and Aspirations\nOffering of Auspicious Symbols by the Retreatants to the throne of Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa\nTraditional Offering of Sweet Rice and Tea\nVideo address by Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa\nOffering of Traditional White Scarves by Guests to the Lama Tsering\, Lama Norgyal and Retreatants (Packets of white scarves (katas) will be available at our bookstore.)\n\n12:00 (noon) | Dinner in honor of Retreatants\, their Guests and Families \nThere is no charge for attending the ceremony or the dinner.  Please come as our guest\, but you must register in advance by writing to reservations@kagyu.com.  Please provide the following information: \n\nNumber in your party who will attend the ceremony.\nNumber in your party who will attend the celebratory dinner at noon.\n\nIf you require overnight accommodations\, please note that most beds at KTC are already reserved for family members of the retreatants.  There are a few dormitory beds at KTC available.  Otherwise\, please see our visitor information page for local hotels. \nThis is a very auspicious event to sponsor. For those who wish to sponsor the Opening of the 9th Three Year Retreat\, the tent\, tables & chairs rental\, or the celebratory dinner\, donations can be made.
