SUMMARY:Commemoration of Buddha's Joyful Day
DESCRIPTION:The observance of Buddha’s Joyful Day on the full moon day of the seventh lunar month is based on the story of Maudgalyayana\, a disciple of the Buddha\, who discovered through his meditative powers that his mother had been reborn as a hungry ghost. Distressed\, he approached the Buddha for help\, who then advised him to make offerings to the Sangha\, as the merit from doing so would help relieve the suffering of his mother and other beings in the lower realms. Buddha’s Joyful Day is observed by making offerings of necessities to monastics\, reciting sūtras and performing acts of generosity. The merit from these deeds is dedicated to all beings\, especially to relieve the suffering of the deceased. \n  \nAugust 30 (Saturday) \n6:00 am | Thousandfold Lamp Offering (Tong Chö)\nA traditional Tong Chö of 1\,000 butter lamps\, 1\,000 bowls of saffron water and 300 bowls filled with rice\, incense and flowers is offered weekly. \nThe following chanting session is being offered remotely. To participate via Zoom please click here. \n10:00 am | Kalu Rinpoche’s Practice of Aspiration Prayers (Monlam Choga)\, followed by the Short Practice of the Peaceful & Wrathful Deities (Shitro)\nMonlam Choga\, is a practice of offering and aspiration prayers compiled by Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche. This is followed by the short liturgy of Shitro (Peaceful and Wrathful Deities)\, a profound practice from the cycle of teachings and meditations of the Tibetan Book of the Dead. We dedicate this practice to the deceased in order to purify negativities\, avert obstacles in the bardo\, and establish a connection with the deities that will ripen in future lives. \nTo join the chanting please download Kalu Rinpoche’s Practice of Aspiration Prayers (Monlam Choga) \n  \n\nAugust 31 (Sunday) \nPlease join us as we make prayers and offerings for our parents\, ancestors\, and the deceased through a special recitation of the Amitabha sadhana with tsok offerings\, a fire puja for the deceased\, and aspiration prayers for the well being of us and all other beings\, especially those to whom we dedicate the practice by name\, both living and deceased. \n10:00 am | Chanting of Long Amitabha Sadhana\n1:30 pm | Continuation of chanting of Long Amitabha Sadhana with Tsok\, Jangchok Sadhana\, followed by Sür (special fire offering ceremony) \nTo participate via Zoom please click here. \n\nThe practice entitled ‘Jangchok’ will be included within the chanting of the Amitabha sadhana.  Jangchok is done for the benefit of the recently deceased to achieve liberation.  For persons who may have passed away a long time ago the Jangchok practice will still bring great blessings to the deceased and create the causes and conditions for the liberation of the person.  For the living\, it is said that once their karmic debtors are liberated through this practice\, the person will have less obstacles.  For all beings\, this practice will help to create favorable conditions and enhance their well-being. \nIt is said that\, “no matter how long ago your deceased dear ones or relatives have passed away\, it is still very vital to make prayers and offerings for them to increase their merit.” \nDuring the chanting of the Long Amitabha and Jangchok sadhanas all the names of the deceased will be blessed and burned to symbolize purification of their defilements\, obscurities and negative karma by the fire of wisdom\, ripening their merit to be reborn in Amitabha’s pureland of Dewachen. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a weekend with the revered Tibetan Buddhist teacher Ringu Tulku Rinpoche. \nChinese translation will be available.  \nClick here for Chinese – 中文请点击这里 \n\nEvent Schedule: \nTeachings on the 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva \nOct 18 (Saturday) 10:00 am – 11:30 am; 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm\nOct 19 (Sunday) 10:00 am – 11:30 am \nRingu Tulku Rinpoche will be teaching on the 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva written in the 14th century by the Tibetan master Gyalse Thogme Zangpo. This text offers lucid advice to practitioners on the Bodhisattva path\, providing practical methods for transforming any situation into an opportunity for awakening. Ngulchu Thogme’s verses summarize the quintessence of the Mahayana path as represented in the famous Bodhicaryavatara by Shantideva and are thus venerated and frequently quoted by masters of all schools of Tibetan Buddhism. \n*  These sessions are being offered in person and on Zoom. \n\nBestowal of the Bodhisattva Vow  \nOct. 19 (Sunday) 2:30 pm \nRinpoche will be offering the Refuge Vow at the beginning of this session. \nRingu Tulku Rinpoche will bestow the Bodhisattva Vow which is the heart of the Mahayana Buddhist path. It is the affirmation that the root of true happiness and wisdom is bodhicitta\, the resolve to attain enlightenment for the benefit of others. Taking and maintaining the Bodhisattva Vow reinforces bodhicitta. \nIt is customary for those receiving the Bodhisattva vow to bring offerings to the shrine such as fruit\, incense or flowers\, and to offer a kata (traditional white scarf) and monetary gift directly to the Rinpoche bestowing the vows after the ceremony to express sincerity and commitment to cultivating bodhicitta. Please arrive 30 minutes before the start of the ceremony to set up your offerings with the help of the shrine attendant. \nA Body\, Speech & Mind Offering ceremony will be held at the end of Sunday afternoon’s session. DESCRIPTION:About Nyungnye and Lhabab Duchen \nBuddhahood is the state in which one spontaneously and effortlessly benefits oneself and all beings without exception. In order to attain this state\, we must perfect the accumulations of merit and wisdom. Through the perfection of the two accumulations\, we purify our notions of self and other and realize the true nature of mind. \nLhabab Duchen is the auspicious occasion commemorating Lord Buddha’s return from the Tushita realm. It is said to be a time when the merit accumulated through performing virtuous activity is multiplied. \nThis year\, Lhabab Duchen falls on Tuesday\, November 11. To commemorate this occasion\, the resident sangha of PTC will be participating in the practice of Nyungne (the Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig). The Nyungne practice is a profound kriya tantra meditation ritual based on loving-kindness and compassion in the form of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig. The practice involves maintaining strict vows and meditating while reciting mantras and prayers\, and performing prostrations and visualizations. Undertaken in sets of two days\, the first day includes one vegetarian meal at noon\, drinking water throughout the day as needed. The Nyungne is renowned as a superior means to purify negative karma and accumulate great merit. \n. \nThis event is in-person only. It will not be accessible remotely. \n  \nGuests are welcome to participate in the Nyungne but please note – it is necessary to arrive at PTC by 8:00 pm the evening before as the practice begins as early as 5:00 am each day. \nGuests attending a nyungne for the first time must speak to Lama Lhadrun before doing this practice. DESCRIPTION:The anniversary of Milarepa auspiciously coincides with Chotrul Duchen\, the ‘Festival of Miracles’ which occurs on the full moon of the first Tibetan month\, and commemorates the Buddha performing fifteen days of miracles in order to inspire devotion in his disciples. On Chotrul Duchen\, all positive and negative actions are said to be multiplied 10 million times. \nMilarepa is the most beloved yogi and poet of Tibet and one of the forefathers of the Kagyu lineage revered for his inspirational life story and profound songs of realization. The Guru Yoga of Milarepa is an essential practice of the Kagyu lineage in which the transmission of devotion becomes the basis of Mahamudra. \n  \n6:30 am | Thousandfold Lamp Offering (Tong Chö)\nA traditional Tong Chö of 1\,000 butter lamps\, 1\,000 bowls of saffron water and 300 bowls filled with rice\, incense and flowers accompanied by chanting of the Chenrezig practice. \nThe following sessions will also be available on Zoom. DESCRIPTION:清明節法會功德金表 (Qing Ming 2026)\n凡隨喜參與以下任何項目，均可提供迴向名單清明節法會 \n  \nThe sangha of PTC will be making prayers and offerings for our parents\, ancestors\, and the deceased through a special recitation of the Amitabha sadhana with tsok offerings and aspiration prayers for the well being of ourselves and all other beings\, especially those to whom we dedicate the practice by name\, both living and deceased. \nThe practice entitled ‘Jangchok’ will be included within the chanting of the Amitabha sadhana.  Jangchok is done for the benefit of the recently deceased to achieve liberation.  For persons who may have passed away a long time ago the Jangchok practice will still bring great blessings to the deceased and create the causes and conditions for the liberation of the person.  For the living\, it is said that once their karmic debtors are liberated through this practice\, the person will have less obstacles.  For all beings\, this practice will help to create favorable conditions and enhance their well-being. \nDuring the chanting Lama Tsering Dakpa will bless and burn all the names of the deceased to symbolize purification of their defilements\, obscurities and negative karma by the fire of wisdom\, ripening their merit to be reborn in Amitabha’s pureland of Dewachen. DESCRIPTION:The resident sangha of PTC will be commemorating the anniversary of our root lama Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche‘s parinirvana — the day he left his body and entered the Pure Realms. \nSchedule of events: \n6:30 am | Thousandfold Lamp Offering (Tong Chö) \nA traditional Tong Chö of 1\,000 butter lamps\, 1\,000 bowls of saffron water and 300 bowls filled with rice\, incense and flowers is offered weekly\, accompanied by chanting of the Chenrezig practice. \n\nThe next chanting session is being offered in person and on Zoom. If you would like to participate remotely\, please use our online event registration form.   \n10:00 am | Kalu Rinpoche’s Practice of Aspiration Prayers (Monlam Choga)\, followed by the Short Practice of the Peaceful & Wrathful Deities (Shitro) \nChanting of the Monlam Choga\, a practice of offering and aspiration prayers compiled by Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche. This is followed by the short liturgy of Shitro (Peaceful and Wrathful Deities)\, a profound practice from the cycle of teachings and meditations of the Tibetan Book of the Dead.
