DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to welcome Chonyi Rinpoche at Palpung Thubten Choling November 5–6. Chonyi Gyamtso Rinpoche was born in Yunnan province in 1978. He was recognized as the 14th tulku of Orgyen Lungzin Chonyi Gyamtso by Guru Vajradhara His Holiness the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa in 2003. Rinpoche travels the world teaching the Buddhadharma. While keeping to traditional dharma topics\, Rinpoche uses modern colloquial language\, examples from daily life\, and humor in his own refreshing presentation of the dharma. SUMMARY:The Perfection of Merit for Lhabap Duchen: Nyungne\, the Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig
DESCRIPTION:About Nyungnye and Lhabap Duchen \nBuddhahood is the state in which one spontaneously and effortlessly benefits oneself and all beings without exception. In order to attain this state\, we must perfect the accumulations of merit and wisdom. Through the perfection of the two accumulations\, we purify our notions of self and other and realize the true nature of mind. \nThe resident sangha of PTC will be participating in the practice of Nyungne (the Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig). The Nyungne practice is a profound kriya tantra meditation ritual based on loving-kindness and compassion in the form of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig. The practice involves maintaining strict vows and meditating while reciting mantras and prayers\, and performing prostrations and visualizations. Undertaken in sets of two days\, the first day includes one vegetarian meal at noon\, drinking water throughout the day as needed. The second day is a complete fast performed in noble silence. The Nyungne is renowned as a superior means to purify negative karma and accumulate great merit. \nThe fasting day for this Nyungne falls on November 15\, the auspicious occasion of Lhabap Duchen\, commemorating Lord Buddha’s return from the Tushita realm. DESCRIPTION:Please note schedule change from April 8 (Saturday) to April 9 (Sunday) \nThe sangha of PTC will be making prayers and offerings for our parents\, ancestors\, and the deceased through a special recitation of the Amitabha sadhana with tsok offerings and aspiration prayers for the well being of ourselves and all other beings\, especially those to whom we dedicate the practice by name\, both living and deceased. \nThe practice entitled ‘Jangchok’ will be included within the chanting of the Amitabha sadhana.  Jangchok is done for the benefit of the recently deceased to achieve liberation.  For persons who may have passed away a long time ago the Jangchok practice will still bring great blessings to the deceased and create the causes and conditions for the liberation of the person.  For the living\, it is said that once their karmic debtors are liberated through this practice\, the person will have less obstacles.  For all beings\, this practice will help to create favorable conditions and enhance their well-being. \nDuring the chanting Lama Tsering Dakpa will bless and burn all the names of the deceased to symbolize purification of their defilements\, obscurities and negative karma by the fire of wisdom\, ripening their merit to be reborn in Amitabha’s pureland of Dewachen. Sessions will also be live-streamed via Zoom and recorded. \nFrom Lama Zangmo: “We will discuss and practice the Chenrezig sadhana and compassion itself in terms of view\, meditation\, and application. The view is our perspective and approach to the practice. Meditation includes deity meditation as a technique and how it relates to other dharma practices such as calm abiding and insight. Application relates the view and meditation to our daily lives.” \nPractice sessions will include teaching\, chanting (in Tibetan and English)\, mantra recitation and Q&A as needed. This retreat will be held during the auspicious month of Sakadawa\, the month commemorating the birth\, enlightenment and parinirvana of Shakyamuni Buddha. It is said that\, during this time\, the merit accumulated through performing virtuous activity is multiplied 100\,000 times. \nThe Nyungne practice is a profound kriya tantra meditation ritual based on loving-kindness and compassion in the form of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig.  The practice involves maintaining strict vows and meditating while reciting mantras and prayers\, and performing prostrations and visualizations. Undertaken in sets of two days\, the first day includes one vegetarian meal at noon\, drinking water throughout the day as needed. The second day is a complete fast performed in noble silence. DESCRIPTION:Wearing masks is strongly recommended. \n  \nThe observance of Buddha’s Joyful Day on the full moon day of the seventh lunar month is based on the story of Maudgalyayana\, a disciple of the Buddha\, who discovered through his meditative powers that his mother had been reborn as a hungry ghost. Distressed\, he approached the Buddha for help\, who then advised him to make offerings to the Sangha\, as the merit from doing so would help relieve the suffering of his mother and other beings in the lower realms. Buddha’s Joyful Day is observed by making offerings of necessities to monastics\, reciting sūtras and performing acts of generosity. The merit from these deeds is dedicated to all beings\, especially to relieve the suffering of the deceased. \n  \nSeptember 2 (Saturday) \n6:00 am | Thousandfold Lamp Offering (Tong Chö)\nA traditional Tong Chö of 1\,000 butter lamps\, 1\,000 bowls of saffron water and 300 bowls filled with rice\, incense and flowers is offered weekly. \nThe following chanting session is being offered remotely. SUMMARY:Commemoration of Lhabab Duchen: Nyungne\, the Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig
DESCRIPTION:About Nyungnye and Lhabab Duchen \nBuddhahood is the state in which one spontaneously and effortlessly benefits oneself and all beings without exception. In order to attain this state\, we must perfect the accumulations of merit and wisdom. Through the perfection of the two accumulations\, we purify our notions of self and other and realize the true nature of mind. \nThe resident sangha of PTC will be participating in the practice of Nyungne (the Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig). The Nyungne practice is a profound kriya tantra meditation ritual based on loving-kindness and compassion in the form of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig. The practice involves maintaining strict vows and meditating while reciting mantras and prayers\, and performing prostrations and visualizations. Undertaken in sets of two days\, the first day includes one vegetarian meal at noon\, drinking water throughout the day as needed. The second day is a complete fast performed in noble silence. The Nyungne is renowned as a superior means to purify negative karma and accumulate great merit. \nThe fasting day for this Nyungne falls on November 4\, the auspicious occasion of Lhabab Duchen\, commemorating Lord Buddha’s return from the Tushita realm. It is said to be a time when the merit accumulated through performing virtuous activity is multiplied. \n\nThis event is in-person only. It will not be accessible remotely. \n  \nGuests are welcome to participate in the Nyungne but please note – it is necessary to arrive at PTC by 8:00 pm the evening before as the practice begins as early as 5:00 am each day. \nGuests attending a nyungne for the first time must speak to Lama Lhadrun before doing this practice. Please contact her by email  or call 845-297-2500 (leaving both your name and phone number so that she can get back to you). \nWe do suggest that guests try to come for the 1st day of the nyungne set\, but if that is not practical\, it is still possible to participate any day of the practice.
