SUMMARY:Amitabha Chanting for Liberating the Deceased and Benefiting Beings (Qing Ming) - 清明節法會
DESCRIPTION:清明節法會\n  \nThe sangha of PTC will be making prayers and offerings for our parents\, ancestors\, and the deceased through a special recitation of the Amitabha sadhana with tsok offerings and aspiration prayers for the well being of ourselves and all other beings\, especially those to whom we dedicate the practice by name\, both living and deceased. \nThe practice entitled ‘Jangchok’ will be included within the chanting of the Amitabha sadhana.  Jangchok is done for the benefit of the recently deceased to achieve liberation.  For persons who may have passed away a long time ago the Jangchok practice will still bring great blessings to the deceased and create the causes and conditions for the liberation of the person.  For the living\, it is said that once their karmic debtors are liberated through this practice\, the person will have less obstacles.  For all beings\, this practice will help to create favorable conditions and enhance their well-being. \nDuring the chanting Lama Tsering Dakpa will bless and burn all the names of the deceased to symbolize purification of their defilements\, obscurities and negative karma by the fire of wisdom\, ripening their merit to be reborn in Amitabha’s pureland of Dewachen. Also included will be a dedication of merit to all sponsors and their designated names for blessing. \nYou may donate any amount and provide us with the names for dedication (both living and deceased).  To make these dedications\, download the Amitabha Sadhana Dedication Form in Chinese and English. \n\nThere will be two sessions: 10:00am and 1:30pm.  \n  \nThis event is also being offered on Zoom. If you would like to participate\, please click here. \n  \nPlease do not visit the monastery if you feel unwell and/or have a fever. \nWe urge all program participants to take precautions against the ongoing risk of COVID through protection such as having up-to-date vaccinations\, wearing a good-quality mask indoors\, washing hands and maintaining physical distance. \nMasks and hand sanitizer will be available at all entryways. \nMany thanks to all of you for your support in keeping this event as safe as possible! \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Nyungne Retreat - The Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig
DESCRIPTION:The resident sangha of PTC will be practicing 8 consecutive sets of Nyungne (the Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig). This retreat will be held during the auspicious month of Saga Dawa\, the month commemorating the birth\, enlightenment and parinirvana of Shakyamuni Buddha. It is said that\, during this time\, the merit accumulated through performing virtuous activity is multiplied 100\,000 times. \nThe Nyungne practice is a profound kriya tantra meditation ritual based on loving-kindness and compassion in the form of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig.  The practice involves maintaining strict vows and meditating while reciting mantras and prayers\, and performing prostrations and visualizations. Undertaken in sets of two days\, the first day includes one vegetarian meal at noon\, drinking water throughout the day as needed. The second day is a complete fast performed in noble silence. The Nyungne is renowned as a superior means to purify negative karma and accumulate great merit. \nChenrezig himself declared that completing even one Nyungne prevents rebirth in the lower realms\, and the practice of eight consecutive Nyungne leads to birth in Amitabha’s pure land of Dewachen. \n  \nThe dates for each set are as follows:\n\nSet 1   Begins May 8 (Wednesday) at 5:30 am.  Ends May 10 (Friday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 2   Begins May 10 (Friday) at 5:00 am.  Ends May 12 (Sunday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 3   Begins May 12 (Sunday) at 5:00 am.  Ends May 14 (Tuesday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 4   Begins May 14 (Tuesday) at 5:00 am.  Ends May 16 (Thursday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 5   Begins May 16 (Thursday) at 5:00 am.  Ends May 18 (Saturday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 6   Begins May 18 (Saturday) at 5:00 am.  Ends May 20 (Monday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 7   Begins May 20 (Monday) at 5:00 am.  Ends May 22 (Wednesday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 8   Begins May 22 (Wednesday) at 5:00 am.  Ends May 24 (Friday) about 8:00 am. \n  \nThis event is in-person only.  It will not be accessible remotely. \n  \nGuests are welcome to participate in any or all of the Nyungne sets but please note – it is necessary to arrive at PTC by 8:00 pm the evening before any set as the practice begins as early as 5:00 am every day throughout the retreat. \nGuests attending a nyungne for the first time must speak to Lama Dechi before doing this practice. SUMMARY:Ringu Tulku Rinpoche - Teachings on Transforming Adversity and The Four Seals

SUMMARY:Commemoration of Buddha's Joyful Day
DESCRIPTION:Wearing masks is strongly recommended. \nThe observance of Buddha’s Joyful Day on the full moon day of the seventh lunar month is based on the story of Maudgalyayana\, a disciple of the Buddha\, who discovered through his meditative powers that his mother had been reborn as a hungry ghost. Distressed\, he approached the Buddha for help\, who then advised him to make offerings to the Sangha\, as the merit from doing so would help relieve the suffering of his mother and other beings in the lower realms. Buddha’s Joyful Day is observed by making offerings of necessities to monastics\, reciting sūtras and performing acts of generosity. The merit from these deeds is dedicated to all beings\, especially to relieve the suffering of the deceased. \n  \nAugust 17 (Saturday) \n6:00 am | Thousandfold Lamp Offering (Tong Chö)\nA traditional Tong Chö of 1\,000 butter lamps\, 1\,000 bowls of saffron water and 300 bowls filled with rice\, incense and flowers is offered weekly. \nThe following chanting session is being offered remotely. To participate via Zoom please click here. \n10:00 am | Kalu Rinpoche’s Practice of Aspiration Prayers (Monlam Choga)\, followed by the Short Practice of the Peaceful & Wrathful Deities (Shitro)\nMonlam Choga\, is a practice of offering and aspiration prayers compiled by Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche. This is followed by the short liturgy of Shitro (Peaceful and Wrathful Deities)\, a profound practice from the cycle of teachings and meditations of the Tibetan Book of the Dead. We dedicate this practice to the deceased in order to purify negativities\, avert obstacles in the bardo\, and establish a connection with the deities that will ripen in future lives. \nTo join the chanting please download Kalu Rinpoche’s Practice of Aspiration Prayers (Monlam Choga) \n  \n\nAugust 18 (Sunday) \nPlease join us as we make prayers and offerings for our parents\, ancestors\, and the deceased through a special recitation of the Amitabha sadhana with tsok offerings\, a fire puja for the deceased\, and aspiration prayers for the well being of us and all other beings\, especially those to whom we dedicate the practice by name\, both living and deceased. \n10:00 am | Chanting of Long Amitabha Sadhana\n1:30 pm | Continuation of chanting of Long Amitabha Sadhana with Tsok\, Jangchok Sadhana\, followed by Sür (special fire offering ceremony) \nTo participate via Zoom please click here. \n\nThe practice entitled ‘Jangchok’ will be included within the chanting of the Amitabha sadhana. \nIt is said that\, “no matter how long ago your deceased dear ones or relatives have passed away\, it is still very vital to make prayers and offerings for them to increase their merit.” \nDuring the chanting of the Long Amitabha and Jangchok sadhanas all the names of the deceased will be blessed and burned to symbolize purification of their defilements\, obscurities and negative karma by the fire of wisdom\, ripening their merit to be reborn in Amitabha’s pureland of Dewachen. Also included will be a dedication of merit to all sponsors and their designated names for blessing.  As it is taught in the Ullambana Sūtra\, the merit of making these offerings will bring excellent health\, long life\, removal of obstacles from the donor’s dharma practice and work\, and rebirth of the deceased in Dewachen.  The merit will also be dedicated to world peace and the liberation of all sentient beings.  May the Dharma continue to flourish. \nYou may donate any amount and provide us with the names for dedication (both living and deceased).  To make these dedications\, download the Amitabha Sadhana Dedication Form in Chinese and English. 646-285-8833  mzeng11355@yahoo.com \n  \n
