SUMMARY:Ringu Tulku Rinpoche - Teachings on Transforming Adversity and The Four Seals

SUMMARY:Commemoration of Chökor Duchen
DESCRIPTION:The PTC sangha will be commemorating Chökor Duchen\, the day that Buddha Shakyamuni first turned the Wheel of Dharma\, teaching the Four Noble Truths. \nAfter the Buddha realized awakening beneath the Bodhi tree\, he remained in contemplation. At first he was reluctant to teach\, fearing that people would not understand his message. Finally\, encouraged by Indra and Brahma\, he shared his discovery of the truth in his first teaching. This auspicious day is a “multiplying day” on which karmic results are said to be multiplied by one hundred million\, so we make this a joyful opportunity to practice extra virtue. \n\n6:30am | Thousandfold Lamp Offering (Tong Chö)\nA traditional Tong Chö of 1\,000 butter lamps\, 1\,000 bowls of saffron water and 300 bowls filled with rice\, incense and flowers is offered weekly\, accompanied by chanting of the Chenrezig practice. \n  \nThe following chanting session will take place in the main house shrine room. Please note – we are not able to live stream this session. \n  \n10:00am | Kalu Rinpoche’s Practice of Aspiration Prayers (Monlam Choga)\, followed by the Short Practice of the Peaceful & Wrathful Deities (Shitro)\nChanting of the Monlam Choga\, a practice of offering and aspiration prayers compiled by Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche. This is followed by the short liturgy of Shitro (Peaceful and Wrathful Deities)\, a profound practice from the cycle of teachings and meditations of the Tibetan Book of the Dead. We dedicate this practice to the deceased in order to purify negativities\, avert obstacles in the bardo\, and establish a connection with the deities that will ripen in future lives. \n  \nFor those who wish to sponsor the chanting\, donations can be made toward meals and the tea served during the chanting. General contributions toward these special practices are also welcome. Be sure to include a prayer with your donation which will be read aloud to the assembly. \nYou may make your donations on-line or simply mail your tax-deductible contribution to: \nPalpung Thubten Chöling\nAttn: Office\n245 Sheafe Road\, Wappingers Falls\, NY 12590. \nPlease make checks payable to Palpung Thubten Choling or PTC. For credit card payments\, fax your credit card number (VISA or MasterCard only)\, along with the expiration date and signature and the amount you would like to charge to (845) 297-5761. For your protection\, please do not email your credit card information. \nAs we are not able to check email during chanting events\, please send your prayer request and sponsorship information 48 hours before the first day of chanting to guarantee that we receive it in time to announce your prayer. SUMMARY:Commemoration of Buddha's Joyful Day
DESCRIPTION:Wearing masks is strongly recommended. \nThe observance of Buddha’s Joyful Day on the full moon day of the seventh lunar month is based on the story of Maudgalyayana\, a disciple of the Buddha\, who discovered through his meditative powers that his mother had been reborn as a hungry ghost. Distressed\, he approached the Buddha for help\, who then advised him to make offerings to the Sangha\, as the merit from doing so would help relieve the suffering of his mother and other beings in the lower realms. Buddha’s Joyful Day is observed by making offerings of necessities to monastics\, reciting sūtras and performing acts of generosity. The merit from these deeds is dedicated to all beings\, especially to relieve the suffering of the deceased. \n  \nAugust 17 (Saturday) \n6:00 am | Thousandfold Lamp Offering (Tong Chö)\nA traditional Tong Chö of 1\,000 butter lamps\, 1\,000 bowls of saffron water and 300 bowls filled with rice\, incense and flowers is offered weekly. \nThe following chanting session is being offered remotely. To participate via Zoom please click here. \n10:00 am | Kalu Rinpoche’s Practice of Aspiration Prayers (Monlam Choga)\, followed by the Short Practice of the Peaceful & Wrathful Deities (Shitro)\nMonlam Choga\, is a practice of offering and aspiration prayers compiled by Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche. \nTo join the chanting please download Kalu Rinpoche’s Practice of Aspiration Prayers (Monlam Choga) \n  \n\nAugust 18 (Sunday) \nPlease join us as we make prayers and offerings for our parents\, ancestors\, and the deceased through a special recitation of the Amitabha sadhana with tsok offerings\, a fire puja for the deceased\, and aspiration prayers for the well being of us and all other beings\, especially those to whom we dedicate the practice by name\, both living and deceased. \n10:00 am | Chanting of Long Amitabha Sadhana\n1:30 pm | Continuation of chanting of Long Amitabha Sadhana with Tsok\, Jangchok Sadhana\, followed by Sür (special fire offering ceremony) \nTo participate via Zoom please click here. \n\nThe practice entitled ‘Jangchok’ will be included within the chanting of the Amitabha sadhana.  Jangchok is done for the benefit of the recently deceased to achieve liberation.  For persons who may have passed away a long time ago the Jangchok practice will still bring great blessings to the deceased and create the causes and conditions for the liberation of the person.  For the living\, it is said that once their karmic debtors are liberated through this practice\, the person will have less obstacles.  For all beings\, this practice will help to create favorable conditions and enhance their well-being. \nIt is said that\, “no matter how long ago your deceased dear ones or relatives have passed away\, it is still very vital to make prayers and offerings for them to increase their merit.” \nDuring the chanting of the Long Amitabha and Jangchok sadhanas all the names of the deceased will be blessed and burned to symbolize purification of their defilements\, obscurities and negative karma by the fire of wisdom\, ripening their merit to be reborn in Amitabha’s pureland of Dewachen. Also included will be a dedication of merit to all sponsors and their designated names for blessing.  As it is taught in the Ullambana Sūtra\, the merit of making these offerings will bring excellent health\, long life\, removal of obstacles from the donor’s dharma practice and work\, and rebirth of the deceased in Dewachen.  The merit will also be dedicated to world peace and the liberation of all sentient beings.  May the Dharma continue to flourish. \nYou may donate any amount and provide us with the names for dedication (both living and deceased).  To make these dedications\, download the Amitabha Sadhana Dedication Form in Chinese and English. 646-285-8833  mzeng11355@yahoo.com \n  \n

SUMMARY:Commemoration of Lhabab Duchen: Nyungne\, the Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig
DESCRIPTION:About Nyungnye and Lhabab Duchen \nBuddhahood is the state in which one spontaneously and effortlessly benefits oneself and all beings without exception. In order to attain this state\, we must perfect the accumulations of merit and wisdom. Through the perfection of the two accumulations\, we purify our notions of self and other and realize the true nature of mind. \nLhabab Duchen is the auspicious occasion commemorating Lord Buddha’s return from the Tushita realm. It is said to be a time when the merit accumulated through performing virtuous activity is multiplied. \nThis year\, Lhabab Duchen falls on Friday\, November 22. Throughout the weekend before this date\, the resident sangha of PTC will be participating in the practice of Nyungne (the Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig). The Nyungne practice is a profound kriya tantra meditation ritual based on loving-kindness and compassion in the form of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig. The practice involves maintaining strict vows and meditating while reciting mantras and prayers\, and performing prostrations and visualizations. Undertaken in sets of two days\, the first day includes one vegetarian meal at noon\, drinking water throughout the day as needed. The Nyungne is renowned as a superior means to purify negative karma and accumulate great merit. \n. \nThis event is in-person only. It will not be accessible remotely. \n  \nGuests are welcome to participate in the Nyungne but please note – it is necessary to arrive at PTC by 8:00 pm the evening before as the practice begins as early as 5:00 am each day. \nGuests attending a nyungne for the first time must speak to Lama Lhadrun before doing this practice. Please contact her by email  or call 845-297-2500 (leaving both your name and phone number so that she can get back to you). \nWe do suggest that guests try to come for the 1st day of the nyungne set\, but if that is not practical\, it is still possible to participate any day of the practice. For further details for how to participate in this way\, please follow the contact instructions above. \n  \nNyungne prices: includes meals and room accommodations.  Please note that accommodations are only open to program participants.  \n  \nType of Accommodation                                      Non-Member / Member \nDormitory                                                                   $50 / $30\nDouble Occupancy Room Guest House                   $70 / $50\nPrivate Room Guest House                                       $90 / $70\nDouble Occupancy Room Maitreya Center               $110 / $90\nPrivate Room Maitreya Center                                  $130 / $110 \n  \n  \nTO REGISTER PLEASE CLICK HERE \nDeadline for Registration is November 8 \n  \nThere are many ways to share in the merit of this event through sponsoring the chanting\, the tea served during the chanting\, and the lunch. \nYou may also simply mail your tax-deductible contribution to:\nPalpung Thubten Chöling\nAttn: Office\n245 Sheafe Road\, Wappingers Falls\, NY 12590. \nPlease make checks payable to Palpung Thubten Choling or PTC.
