SUMMARY:Nyungne Retreat - The Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig
DESCRIPTION:The resident sangha of PTC will be practicing 8 consecutive sets of Nyungne (the Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig). This retreat will be held during the auspicious month of Saga Dawa\, the month commemorating the birth\, enlightenment and parinirvana of Shakyamuni Buddha. It is said that\, during this time\, the merit accumulated through performing virtuous activity is multiplied 100\,000 times. \nThe Nyungne practice is a profound kriya tantra meditation ritual based on loving-kindness and compassion in the form of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig.  The practice involves maintaining strict vows and meditating while reciting mantras and prayers\, and performing prostrations and visualizations. Undertaken in sets of two days\, the first day includes one vegetarian meal at noon\, drinking water throughout the day as needed. The second day is a complete fast performed in noble silence. The Nyungne is renowned as a superior means to purify negative karma and accumulate great merit. \nChenrezig himself declared that completing even one Nyungne prevents rebirth in the lower realms\, and the practice of eight consecutive Nyungne leads to birth in Amitabha’s pure land of Dewachen. \n  \nThe dates for each set are as follows:\n\nSet 1   Begins May 27 (Tuesday) at 5:30 am.  Ends May 29 (Thursday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 2   Begins May 29 (Thursday) at 5:00 am.  Ends May 31(Saturday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 3   Begins May 31 (Saturday at 5:00 am.  Ends June 2 (Monday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 4   Begins June 2 (Monday) at 5:00 am.  Ends June 4 (Wednesday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 5   Begins June 4 (Wednesday) at 5:00 am.  Ends June 6 (Friday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 6   Begins June 6 (Friday) at 5:00 am.  Ends June 8 (Sunday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 7   Begins June 8 (Sunday) at 5:00 am.  Ends June 10 (Tuesday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 8   Begins June 10 (Tuesday) at 5:00 am.  Ends June 12 (Thursday) about 8:00 am. \n  \nThis event is in-person only.  It will not be accessible remotely. \n  \nGuests are welcome to participate in any or all of the Nyungne sets but please note – it is necessary to arrive at PTC by 8:00 pm the evening before any set as the practice begins as early as 5:00 am every day throughout the retreat. \nGuests attending a nyungne for the first time must speak to Lama Dechi before doing this practice. SUMMARY:Commemoration of Buddha's Joyful Day
DESCRIPTION:The observance of Buddha’s Joyful Day on the full moon day of the seventh lunar month is based on the story of Maudgalyayana\, a disciple of the Buddha\, who discovered through his meditative powers that his mother had been reborn as a hungry ghost. Distressed\, he approached the Buddha for help\, who then advised him to make offerings to the Sangha\, as the merit from doing so would help relieve the suffering of his mother and other beings in the lower realms. Buddha’s Joyful Day is observed by making offerings of necessities to monastics\, reciting sūtras and performing acts of generosity. The merit from these deeds is dedicated to all beings\, especially to relieve the suffering of the deceased. \n  \nAugust 30 (Saturday) \n6:00 am | Thousandfold Lamp Offering (Tong Chö)\nA traditional Tong Chö of 1\,000 butter lamps\, 1\,000 bowls of saffron water and 300 bowls filled with rice\, incense and flowers is offered weekly. \nThe following chanting session is being offered remotely. To participate via Zoom please click here. \n10:00 am | Kalu Rinpoche’s Practice of Aspiration Prayers (Monlam Choga)\, followed by the Short Practice of the Peaceful & Wrathful Deities (Shitro)\nMonlam Choga\, is a practice of offering and aspiration prayers compiled by Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche. This is followed by the short liturgy of Shitro (Peaceful and Wrathful Deities)\, a profound practice from the cycle of teachings and meditations of the Tibetan Book of the Dead. We dedicate this practice to the deceased in order to purify negativities\, avert obstacles in the bardo\, and establish a connection with the deities that will ripen in future lives. \nTo join the chanting please download Kalu Rinpoche’s Practice of Aspiration Prayers (Monlam Choga) \n  \n\nAugust 31 (Sunday) \nPlease join us as we make prayers and offerings for our parents\, ancestors\, and the deceased through a special recitation of the Amitabha sadhana with tsok offerings\, a fire puja for the deceased\, and aspiration prayers for the well being of us and all other beings\, especially those to whom we dedicate the practice by name\, both living and deceased. \n10:00 am | Chanting of Long Amitabha Sadhana\n1:30 pm | Continuation of chanting of Long Amitabha Sadhana with Tsok\, Jangchok Sadhana\, followed by Sür (special fire offering ceremony) \nTo participate via Zoom please click here. \n\nThe practice entitled ‘Jangchok’ will be included within the chanting of the Amitabha sadhana.  Jangchok is done for the benefit of the recently deceased to achieve liberation.  For persons who may have passed away a long time ago the Jangchok practice will still bring great blessings to the deceased and create the causes and conditions for the liberation of the person.  For the living\, it is said that once their karmic debtors are liberated through this practice\, the person will have less obstacles.  For all beings\, this practice will help to create favorable conditions and enhance their well-being. \nIt is said that\, “no matter how long ago your deceased dear ones or relatives have passed away\, it is still very vital to make prayers and offerings for them to increase their merit.” \nDuring the chanting of the Long Amitabha and Jangchok sadhanas all the names of the deceased will be blessed and burned to symbolize purification of their defilements\, obscurities and negative karma by the fire of wisdom\, ripening their merit to be reborn in Amitabha’s pureland of Dewachen. Also included will be a dedication of merit to all sponsors and their designated names for blessing.  As it is taught in the Ullambana Sūtra\, the merit of making these offerings will bring excellent health\, long life\, removal of obstacles from the donor’s dharma practice and work\, and rebirth of the deceased in Dewachen.  The merit will also be dedicated to world peace and the liberation of all sentient beings.  May the Dharma continue to flourish. \nYou may donate any amount and provide us with the names for dedication (both living and deceased).  To make these dedications\, download the Amitabha Sadhana Dedication Form in Chinese and English.

SUMMARY:Ringu Tulku Rinpoche - Teachings on the 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva and Bestowal of the Bodhisattva Vow
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a weekend with the revered Tibetan Buddhist teacher Ringu Tulku Rinpoche. \nChinese translation will be available. \nClick here for Chinese – 中文请点击这里 \n\nEvent Schedule: \nTeachings on the 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva \nOct 18 (Saturday) 10:00 am – 11:30 am; 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm\nOct 19 (Sunday) 10:00 am – 11:30 am \nRingu Tulku Rinpoche will be teaching on the 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva written in the 14th century by the Tibetan master Gyalse Thogme Zangpo. This text offers lucid advice to practitioners on the Bodhisattva path\, providing practical methods for transforming any situation into an opportunity for awakening. Ngulchu Thogme’s verses summarize the quintessence of the Mahayana path as represented in the famous Bodhicaryavatara by Shantideva and are thus venerated and frequently quoted by masters of all schools of Tibetan Buddhism. \n*  These sessions are being offered in person and on Zoom. \n\nBestowal of the Bodhisattva Vow  \nOct. 19 (Sunday) 2:30 pm \nRinpoche will be offering the Refuge Vow at the beginning of this session. \nRingu Tulku Rinpoche will bestow the Bodhisattva Vow which is the heart of the Mahayana Buddhist path. It is the affirmation that the root of true happiness and wisdom is bodhicitta\, the resolve to attain enlightenment for the benefit of others. Taking and maintaining the Bodhisattva Vow reinforces bodhicitta. \nIt is customary for those receiving the Bodhisattva vow to bring offerings to the shrine such as fruit\, incense or flowers\, and to offer a kata (traditional white scarf) and monetary gift directly to the Rinpoche bestowing the vows after the ceremony to express sincerity and commitment to cultivating bodhicitta. Please arrive 30 minutes before the start of the ceremony to set up your offerings with the help of the shrine attendant. \nA Body\, Speech & Mind Offering ceremony will be held at the end of Sunday afternoon’s session. Following this ceremony\, the Sangha may line up to make an offering with kata (offering scarf) to Rinpoche. \n** This session is being offered in-person only. \n  \n\n\n  \n\nFees for Each Session. SUMMARY:Commemoration of Lhabab Duchen: Nyungne\, the Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig
DESCRIPTION:About Nyungnye and Lhabab Duchen \nBuddhahood is the state in which one spontaneously and effortlessly benefits oneself and all beings without exception. In order to attain this state\, we must perfect the accumulations of merit and wisdom. Through the perfection of the two accumulations\, we purify our notions of self and other and realize the true nature of mind. \nLhabab Duchen is the auspicious occasion commemorating Lord Buddha’s return from the Tushita realm. It is said to be a time when the merit accumulated through performing virtuous activity is multiplied. \nThis year\, Lhabab Duchen falls on Tuesday\, November 11. To commemorate this occasion\, the resident sangha of PTC will be participating in the practice of Nyungne (the Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig). The Nyungne practice is a profound kriya tantra meditation ritual based on loving-kindness and compassion in the form of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig. The practice involves maintaining strict vows and meditating while reciting mantras and prayers\, and performing prostrations and visualizations. Undertaken in sets of two days\, the first day includes one vegetarian meal at noon\, drinking water throughout the day as needed. The Nyungne is renowned as a superior means to purify negative karma and accumulate great merit. \n. \nThis event is in-person only. It will not be accessible remotely. \n  \nGuests are welcome to participate in the Nyungne but please note – it is necessary to arrive at PTC by 8:00 pm the evening before as the practice begins as early as 5:00 am each day. \nGuests attending a nyungne for the first time must speak to Lama Lhadrun before doing this practice. Please contact her by email  or call 845-297-2500 (leaving both your name and phone number so that she can get back to you). \nWe do suggest that guests try to come for the 1st day of the nyungne set\, but if that is not practical\, it is still possible to participate any day of the practice. For further details for how to participate in this way\, please follow the contact instructions above. \n  \nNyungne prices: includes meals and room accommodations.  Please note that accommodations are only open to program participants.  \n  \nType of Accommodation                                      Non-Member / Member \nDormitory                                                                   $50 / $30\nDouble Occupancy Room Guest House                   $70 / $50\nPrivate Room Guest House                                       $90 / $70\nDouble Occupancy Room Maitreya Center               $110 / $90\nPrivate Room Maitreya Center                                  $130 / $110 \n  \n  \nTO REGISTER PLEASE CLICK HERE \nDeadline for Registration is November 2 \n  \nThere are many ways to share in the merit of this event through sponsoring the chanting\, the tea served during the chanting\, and the lunch. \nYou may also simply mail your tax-deductible contribution to:\nPalpung Thubten Chöling\nAttn: Office\n245 Sheafe Road\, Wappingers Falls\, NY 12590. \nPlease make checks payable to Palpung Thubten Choling or PTC.
