SUMMARY:Study Group on The 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva
DESCRIPTION:In light of concerns about the coronavirus outbreak\, to protect the well-being and safety of everyone\, Palpung Thubten Chöling Monastery is temporarily suspending public events and attendance by visitors. \n  \nIf you would like to participate\, please use our online event registration form.\n \n  \nLed by Lamas Depa and Lhadrun\, we will explore in depth The 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva; a classic text in the Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism that remains vividly applicable to life in the 21st-century West. It was written by Gyalse Ngulchu Togme Zangpo\, a humble 14th-century monk\, as a reminder to himself of his aspirations for traveling the path of a bodhisattva and using everything that happened to him as a basis for awakening. How can a 14th-century Tibetan text be relevant to the very different lives we lead now? Because we still face the same basic human situations Togme Zangpo did in his day\, and have the same emotional reactions that keep us cycling in samsara. Thus\, Togme Zangpo’s advice remains as relevant today as when it was first composed. \n  \nWe will be using two main books – Traveling the Path of Compassion by Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje and The Heart of Compassion by Dilgo Khyentse – as well as a supplementary book – Reflections on Silver River by Ken McLeod. They are recommended but not required for participation. \n  \nNewcomers are welcome any Tuesday. There are no prerequisites and no attendance requirement.

DESCRIPTION:Commemoration of Chotrul Duchen and the Anniversary of Milarepa\nFebruary 27\, 2021 (Saturday)\nIn light of concerns about the coronavirus outbreak\, to protect the well-being and safety of everyone\, Palpung Thubten Chöling Monastery remains closed to the public.  \nThe anniversary of Milarepa auspiciously coincides with Chotrul Duchen\, the ‘Festival of Miracles’ which occurs on the full moon of the first Tibetan month\, and commemorates the Buddha performing fifteen days of miracles in order to inspire devotion in his disciples. On Chotrul Duchen\, all positive and negative actions are said to be multiplied 10 million times. \n6:30 am | Thousandfold Lamp Offering (Tong Chö)\nA traditional Tong Chö of 1\,000 butter lamps\, 1\,000 bowls of saffron water and 300 bowls filled with rice\, incense and flowers accompanied by chanting of the Chenrezig practice. \n \nThe next chanting sessions are being offered remotely on Zoom. If you would like to participate please email Lama Lhadrun. \n10:00 am | Kalu Rinpoche’s Practice of Aspiration Prayers (Monlam Choga)\, followed by the Short Practice of the Peaceful & Wrathful Deities (Shitro)\nChanting of the Monlam Choga\, a practice of offering and aspiration prayers compiled by Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche. This is followed by the short liturgy of Shitro (Peaceful and Wrathful Deities)\, a profound practice from the cycle of teachings and meditations of the Tibetan Book of the Dead. We dedicate this practice to the deceased in order to purify negativities\, avert obstacles in the bardo\, and establish a connection with the deities that will ripen in future lives \n2:00 pm | Chanting of Milarepa Practice with Feast Offering (Tsok)\nMilarepa is the most beloved yogi and poet of Tibet and one of the forefathers of the Kagyu lineage revered for his inspirational life story and profound songs of realization. The Guru Yoga of Milarepa is an essential practice of the Kagyu lineage in which the transmission of devotion becomes the basis of Mahamudra. \n  \nAlthough the monastery is closed to the public\, there are many ways to share in the merit of these activities through sponsoring the chanting\, the tea served during the chanting\, meals\, and the offering of butter lamps. Be sure to include a prayer with your donation which will be read aloud to the assembly.  \nYou may make your donations on-line or simply mail your tax-deductible contribution to: \nPalpung Thubten Chöling\nAttn: Office\n245 Sheafe Road\, Wappingers Falls\, NY 12590. \nPlease make checks payable to Palpung Thubten Choling or PTC.

SUMMARY:Amitabha Chanting for Liberating the Deceased and Benefiting Beings
DESCRIPTION:In light of the coronavirus outbreak\, to protect the well-being and safety of everyone\, Palpung Thubten Chöling Monastery is temporarily closed to the public. \n  \nThe sangha of PTC will still be making prayers and offerings for our parents\, ancestors\, and the deceased through a special recitation of the Amitabha sadhana with tsok offerings and aspiration prayers for the well being of ourselves and all other beings\, especially those to whom we dedicate the practice by name\, both living and deceased. \nThe practice entitled ‘Jangchok’ will be included within the chanting of the Amitabha sadhana.  Jangchok is done for the benefit of the recently deceased to achieve liberation.  For persons who may have passed away a long time ago the Jangchok practice will still bring great blessings to the deceased and create the causes and conditions for the liberation of the person.  For the living\, it is said that once their karmic debtors are liberated through this practice\, the person will have less obstacles.  For all beings\, this practice will help to create favorable conditions and enhance their well-being. \nDuring the chanting Lama Tsering Dakpa will bless and burn all the names of the deceased to symbolize purification of their defilements\, obscurities and negative karma by the fire of wisdom\, ripening their merit to be reborn in Amitabha’s pureland of Dewachen. Also included will be a dedication of merit to all sponsors and their designated names for blessing. \nThis chanting session begins at 9:30am and is being offered on Zoom.  If you would like to participate please email Lama Lhadrun. \n  \nYou may donate any amount and provide us with the names for dedication (both living and deceased).  To make these dedications\, download the Amitabha Sadhana Dedication Form.
