SUMMARY:Amitabha Chanting for Liberating the Deceased and Benefiting Beings (Qing Ming) - 各位善信大德
DESCRIPTION:Amitabha Chanting for Liberating the Deceased and Benefiting Beings (Qing Ming) – 各位善信大德 \nIn light of the coronavirus outbreak\, to protect the well-being and safety of everyone\, Palpung Thubten Chöling Monastery is temporarily closed to the public.\n \nThe sangha of PTC will still be making prayers and offerings for our parents\, ancestors\, and the deceased through a special recitation of the Amitabha sadhana with tsok offerings and aspiration prayers for the well being of ourselves and all other beings\, especially those to whom we dedicate the practice by name\, both living and deceased. \nThe practice entitled ‘Jangchok’ will be included within the chanting of the Amitabha sadhana.  Jangchok is done for the benefit of the recently deceased to achieve liberation.  For persons who may have passed away a long time ago the Jangchok practice will still bring great blessings to the deceased and create the causes and conditions for the liberation of the person.  For the living\, it is said that once their karmic debtors are liberated through this practice\, the person will have less obstacles.  For all beings\, this practice will help to create favorable conditions and enhance their well-being. \nDuring the chanting Lama Tsering Dakpa will bless and burn all the names of the deceased to symbolize purification of their defilements\, obscurities and negative karma by the fire of wisdom\, ripening their merit to be reborn in Amitabha’s pureland of Dewachen. Also included will be a dedication of merit to all sponsors and their designated names for blessing. \nPlease note: There will be two sessions: 10:0am and 2:00pm. Both are being offered on Zoom. If you would like to participate please email Lama Lhadrun. \n  \nYou may donate any amount and provide us with the names for dedication (both living and deceased).  To make these dedications\, download the Amitabha Sadhana Dedication Form in Chinese and English. \n

SUMMARY:Study Group on The 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva
DESCRIPTION:In light of concerns about the coronavirus outbreak\, to protect the well-being and safety of everyone\, Palpung Thubten Chöling Monastery is temporarily suspending public events and attendance by visitors. \n  \nIf you would like to participate\, please use our online event registration form.\n \n  \nLed by Lamas Depa and Lhadrun\, we will explore in depth The 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva; a classic text in the Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism that remains vividly applicable to life in the 21st-century West. It was written by Gyalse Ngulchu Togme Zangpo\, a humble 14th-century monk\, as a reminder to himself of his aspirations for traveling the path of a bodhisattva and using everything that happened to him as a basis for awakening. How can a 14th-century Tibetan text be relevant to the very different lives we lead now? Because we still face the same basic human situations Togme Zangpo did in his day\, and have the same emotional reactions that keep us cycling in samsara. Thus\, Togme Zangpo’s advice remains as relevant today as when it was first composed. \n  \nWe will be using two main books – Traveling the Path of Compassion by Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje and The Heart of Compassion by Dilgo Khyentse – as well as a supplementary book – Reflections on Silver River by Ken McLeod. They are recommended but not required for participation. \n  \nNewcomers are welcome any Tuesday. There are no prerequisites and no attendance requirement.

SUMMARY:04/11/2021 - Refreshing Our Practice Continued - a Discussion Led by Lama Jamdron and Lama Chodron
DESCRIPTION:In light of concerns about the coronavirus outbreak\, to protect the well-being and safety of everyone\, Palpung Thubten Chöling Monastery remains closed to the public. \n  \nIn March we had a great interactive discussion of how to refresh our dharma practice\, bring it into our daily life\, and work with distraction and other inevitable challenges that arise for all of us. The group consensus was to continue our exploration of this rich topic going forward. In April\, Lama Jamdron and Lama Chodron will lead the discussion\, and we invite everyone at all levels of experience to join us to share your questions as well as your tips for maintaining a consistent\, inspiring practice in a world that benefits immensely from our engaged practice but doesn’t always support it. \n This session is being offered remotely on Zoom.  If you would like to participate please email Lama Lhadrun at: lhadrun@kagyu.com.

SUMMARY:Commemoration of Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche’s Parinirvana and Mother's Day
DESCRIPTION:In light of the coronavirus outbreak\, to protect the well-being and safety of everyone\, Palpung Thubten Chöling Monastery remains temporarily closed to the public. \n  \nThe resident sangha of PTC will be commemorating the anniversary of our root lama Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche‘s parinirvana — the day he left his body and entered the Pure Realms. \nAnd to honor all mothers (past\, present\, and future!) we will be chanting the short practice of Green Tara\, who is often referred to as “The Mother of Liberation\,” and is known for her swift activity in dispelling fears\, obstacles and illness. The merit accumulated through participating in this inspiring practice will be dedicated to the countless beings who have been our mothers since beginningless time. \n  \nSchedule of events: \n6:30am | Thousandfold Lamp Offering (Tong Chö) \nA traditional Tong Chö of 1\,000 butter lamps\, 1\,000 bowls of saffron water and 300 bowls filled with rice\, incense and flowers is offered weekly\, accompanied by chanting of the Chenrezig practice. \n  \nThe next chanting sessions are being offered remotely on Zoom. If you would like to participate please email Lama Lhadrun. \n  \n10:00am | Kalu Rinpoche’s Practice of Aspiration Prayers (Monlam Choga)\, followed by the Short Practice of the Peaceful & Wrathful Deities (Shitro) \nChanting of the Monlam Choga\, a practice of offering and aspiration prayers compiled by Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche. This is followed by the short liturgy of Shitro (Peaceful and Wrathful Deities)\, a profound practice from the cycle of teachings and meditations of the Tibetan Book of the Dead. We dedicate this practice to the deceased in order to purify negativities\, avert obstacles in the bardo\, and establish a connection with the deities that will ripen in future lives. \n  \n1:30 pm | Chanting of Green Tara  \nAlthough the monastery is closed to the public\, there are many ways to share in the merit of these activities through sponsoring the chanting\, the tea served during the chanting\, meals\, and the offering of butter lamps. Be sure to include a prayer with your donation which will be read aloud to the assembly.  \nYou may make your donations on-line or simply mail your tax-deductible contribution to: \nPalpung Thubten Chöling\nAttn: Office\n245 Sheafe Road\, Wappingers Falls\, NY 12590. \nPlease make checks payable to Palpung Thubten Choling or PTC. For credit card payments\, fax your credit card number (VISA or MasterCard only)\, along with the expiration date and signature and the amount you would like to charge to (845) 297-5761. For your protection\, please do not email your credit card information.

SUMMARY:Nyungne Retreat - The Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig
DESCRIPTION:In light of the coronavirus outbreak\, to protect the well-being and safety of everyone\, Palpung Thubten Chöling Monastery remains closed to the public.  \n  \nThe resident sangha of PTC will be practicing 8 consecutive sets of Nyungne (the Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig). This retreat will be held during the auspicious month of Sakadawa\, the month commemorating the birth\, enlightenment and parinirvana of Shakyamuni Buddha. It is said that\, during this time\, the merit accumulated through performing virtuous activity is multiplied 100\,000 times. \nThe Nyungne practice is a profound kriya tantra meditation ritual based on loving-kindness and compassion in the form of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig.  The practice involves maintaining strict vows and meditating while reciting mantras and prayers\, and performing prostrations and visualizations. Undertaken in sets of two days\, the first day includes one vegetarian meal at noon\, drinking water throughout the day as needed. The second day is a complete fast performed in noble silence. The Nyungne is renowned as a superior means to purify negative karma and accumulate great merit. \nChenrezig himself declared that completing even one Nyungne prevents rebirth in the lower realms\, and the practice of eight consecutive Nyungne leads to birth in Amitabha’s pure land of Dewachen. \n  \nThe dates for each set are as follows: \nSet 1   Begins May 11 (Tuesday) at 5:30 am.  Ends May 13 (Thursday) about 6:00 am.\nSet 2   Begins May 13 (Thursday) at 5:00 am.  Ends May 15 (Saturday) about 6:00 am.\nSet 3   Begins May 15 (Saturday at 5:00 am.  Ends May 17 (Monday) about 6:00 am.\nSet 4   Begins May 17 (Monday) at 5:00 am.  Ends May 19 (Wednesday) about 6:00 am.\nSet 5   Begins May 19 (Wednesday) at 5:00 am.  Ends May 21 (Friday) about 6:00 am.\nSet 6   Begins May 21 (Friday) at 5:00 am.  Ends May 23 (Sunday) about 6:00 am.\nSet 7   Begins May 23 (Sunday) at 5:00 am.  Ends May 25 (Tuesday) about 6:00 am.\nSet 8   Begins May 25 (Tuesday) at 5:00 am.  Ends May 27 (Thursday) about 9:30 am.\n\nAlthough the monastery is closed to the public\, there are many ways to share in the merit of this retreat through sponsoring the chanting\, meals and the tea served during the chanting on non fasting days. Be sure to include a prayer with your donation which will be read aloud to the assembly.  \n  \nYou may make your donations on-line or simply mail your tax-deductible contribution to: \nPalpung Thubten Chöling\nAttn: Office\n245 Sheafe Road\, Wappingers Falls\, NY 12590. \n  \nPlease make checks payable to Palpung Thubten Choling or PTC.
