DESCRIPTION:PTC is pleased to welcome Khenpo Lodro Donyo Rinpoche\, who will be giving teachings on the Nyungne Purification and Fasting Practice and bestowing the empowerment of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig. \n【大悲觀世音菩薩齋戒（新）】 見下文中文翻譯 \n \n  \nChenrezig or Avalokiteshvara\, typically depicted as having two or four arms\, is the embodiment of fully awakened compassion\, the heartfelt wish and initiative to free all beings from suffering. Thousand-Armed Chenrezig\, who has 11 heads in various colors\, and 1\,000 arms and hands with an eye in the center of each palm\, thus represents the infinite capacity of the awakened mind to see the suffering of beings in all directions and to offer help in infinite ways. The main practice associated with Thousand-Armed Chenrezig is Nyungne\, a profound kriya tantra meditation ritual based on loving-kindness and compassion and renowned as a superior means to purify negative karma and accumulate great merit. \nKhenpo Donyo Rinpoche is the main spiritual successor of Kyabje Bokar Rinpoche\, and has visited and taught at PTC several times previously. SUMMARY:Nyungne Retreat - The Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig
DESCRIPTION:The resident sangha of PTC will be practicing 8 consecutive sets of Nyungne (the Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig). This retreat will be held during the auspicious month of Saga Dawa\, the month commemorating the birth\, enlightenment and parinirvana of Shakyamuni Buddha. It is said that\, during this time\, the merit accumulated through performing virtuous activity is multiplied 100\,000 times. \nThe Nyungne practice is a profound kriya tantra meditation ritual based on loving-kindness and compassion in the form of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig.  The practice involves maintaining strict vows and meditating while reciting mantras and prayers\, and performing prostrations and visualizations. Undertaken in sets of two days\, the first day includes one vegetarian meal at noon\, drinking water throughout the day as needed. The second day is a complete fast performed in noble silence. The Nyungne is renowned as a superior means to purify negative karma and accumulate great merit. \nChenrezig himself declared that completing even one Nyungne prevents rebirth in the lower realms\, and the practice of eight consecutive Nyungne leads to birth in Amitabha’s pure land of Dewachen. \n  \nThe dates for each set are as follows:\n\nSet 1   Begins May 27 (Tuesday) at 5:30 am.  Ends May 29 (Thursday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 2   Begins May 29 (Thursday) at 5:00 am.  Ends May 31(Saturday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 3   Begins May 31 (Saturday at 5:00 am.  Ends June 2 (Monday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 4   Begins June 2 (Monday) at 5:00 am.  Ends June 4 (Wednesday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 5   Begins June 4 (Wednesday) at 5:00 am.  Ends June 6 (Friday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 6   Begins June 6 (Friday) at 5:00 am.  Ends June 8 (Sunday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 7   Begins June 8 (Sunday) at 5:00 am.  Ends June 10 (Tuesday) about 8:00 am.\nSet 8   Begins June 10 (Tuesday) at 5:00 am.  Ends June 12 (Thursday) about 8:00 am. \n  \nThis event is in-person only.  It will not be accessible remotely. \n  \nGuests are welcome to participate in any or all of the Nyungne sets but please note – it is necessary to arrive at PTC by 8:00 pm the evening before any set as the practice begins as early as 5:00 am every day throughout the retreat. \nGuests attending a nyungne for the first time must speak to Lama Dechi before doing this practice.
