DESCRIPTION:August 2 – 4\, Friday – Sunday | Drolma Yuldok\, a practice based on the 21 Taras \nThis three-day practice based on the 21 Taras\, known as Drolma Yuldok\, is chanted to remove obstacles and bring about auspicious conditions.  The central content of the chanting is the 21 Praises of Tara repeated with various offerings and prayers. \nChanting Schedule:\nFriday & Saturday | 9:00 am & 2:00 pm \nSunday | 9:00 am \n  \nAugust 4\, Sunday (following Drolma Yuldok chanting) | Sür\, Evening Fire Offering Ceremony\nSür (an evening fire offering ceremony) is an offering to the four guests: the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas\, the Protector deities\, sentient beings\, and those with whom we have karmic debts. It averts obstacles and sickness and is dedicated to those who are dying\, to beings in the Bardo\, and to beings with whom we have karmic debts. \n  \nThis in-person event is also being offered on Zoom. SUMMARY:Commemoration of Chökor Duchen
DESCRIPTION:The PTC sangha will be commemorating Chökor Duchen\, the day that Buddha Shakyamuni first turned the Wheel of Dharma\, teaching the Four Noble Truths. \nAfter the Buddha realized awakening beneath the Bodhi tree\, he remained in contemplation. At first he was reluctant to teach\, fearing that people would not understand his message. Finally\, encouraged by Indra and Brahma\, he shared his discovery of the truth in his first teaching. This auspicious day is a “multiplying day” on which karmic results are said to be multiplied by one hundred million\, so we make this a joyful opportunity to practice extra virtue. \n\n6:30am | Thousandfold Lamp Offering (Tong Chö)\nA traditional Tong Chö of 1\,000 butter lamps\, 1\,000 bowls of saffron water and 300 bowls filled with rice\, incense and flowers is offered weekly\, accompanied by chanting of the Chenrezig practice. \n  \nThe following chanting session will take place in the main house shrine room. Please note – we are not able to live stream this session. \n  \n10:00am | Kalu Rinpoche’s Practice of Aspiration Prayers (Monlam Choga)\, followed by the Short Practice of the Peaceful & Wrathful Deities (Shitro)\nChanting of the Monlam Choga\, a practice of offering and aspiration prayers compiled by Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche. This is followed by the short liturgy of Shitro (Peaceful and Wrathful Deities)\, a profound practice from the cycle of teachings and meditations of the Tibetan Book of the Dead. We dedicate this practice to the deceased in order to purify negativities\, avert obstacles in the bardo\, and establish a connection with the deities that will ripen in future lives. \n  \nFor those who wish to sponsor the chanting\, donations can be made toward meals and the tea served during the chanting. General contributions toward these special practices are also welcome. Drawing from the classic text The Great Path of Awakening by Jamgon Kongtrul\, based on the seven points of mind training\, Ringu Tulku Rinpoche will show us how we might instead recognize adversity as an opportunity to awaken\, and bring whatever happens to us onto the path of practice. \nJune 12 (Wednesday) 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm &  7:00 pm – 8:30 pm | The Four Seals\nRinpoche will discuss the four basic principles that define Buddhism: \n\nAll compounded things are impermanent.\nAll contaminated things are suffering.\nAll phenomena are empty and selfless.\nNirvana is true peace.\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nFee for Teaching Sessions (total of 3 sessions). HH 17th Karmapa shares in his foreword to the book\, that “this text has the power of a direct transmission from master to student” and that Gampopa himself promised that studying this text would be the same as receiving the teachings directly from him. \nIn order to develop our understanding of this profound work\, we will also be referring to Path to Buddhahood\, a very accessible and illuminating commentary by Ringu Tulku. \nThe books used will be:\nOrnament of Precious Liberation\, translator Ken Holmes\, Wisdom Publications\nPath to Buddhahood\, by Ringu Tulku\, Shambala \nThe material will be screen-shared each class\, so it is not necessary to buy the books. The class is open to all levels of experience\, and anyone is welcome to join at any time without attending previous sessions. This practice pacifies war\, encourages peace and averts sickness.\nMarme Monlam  – lamp offering aspiration prayer\nLunch\n\n  \nFor those who wish to sponsor the chanting\, donations can be made towards meals\, fire ceremonies or the tea served during the chanting. General contributions towards these special practices are also welcome.
