DESCRIPTION:November 28 – 30\, Friday – Sunday | Drolma Yuldok\, a practice based on the 21 Taras \nThis three-day practice based on the 21 Taras\, known as Drolma Yuldok\, is chanted to remove obstacles and bring about auspicious conditions.  The central content of the chanting is the 21 Praises of Tara repeated with various offerings and prayers. \nChanting Schedule:\nFriday | 1:30 pm \nSaturday & Sunday | 9:00 am & 1:30 pm  \n  \nNovember 30\, Sunday (following Drolma Yuldok chanting) | Sür\, Evening Fire Offering Ceremony\nSür (an evening fire offering ceremony) is an offering to the four guests: the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas\, the Protector deities\, sentient beings\, and those with whom we have karmic debts. It averts obstacles and sickness and is dedicated to those who are dying\, to beings in the Bardo\, and to beings with whom we have karmic debts. \n  \nThis in-person event is also being offered on Zoom. If you would like to participate remotely\, please click here.\n \n  \nFor those who wish to sponsor the chanting\, donations can be made toward meals and the tea served during the chanting. General contributions toward these special practices are also welcome. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a weekend with the revered Tibetan Buddhist teacher Ringu Tulku Rinpoche. \nChinese translation will be available.  \nClick here for Chinese – 中文请点击这里 \n\nEvent Schedule: \nTeachings on the 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva \nOct 18 (Saturday) 10:00 am – 11:30 am; 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm\nOct 19 (Sunday) 10:00 am – 11:30 am \nRingu Tulku Rinpoche will be teaching on the 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva written in the 14th century by the Tibetan master Gyalse Thogme Zangpo. This text offers lucid advice to practitioners on the Bodhisattva path\, providing practical methods for transforming any situation into an opportunity for awakening. Ngulchu Thogme’s verses summarize the quintessence of the Mahayana path as represented in the famous Bodhicaryavatara by Shantideva and are thus venerated and frequently quoted by masters of all schools of Tibetan Buddhism. \n*  These sessions are being offered in person and on Zoom. \n\nBestowal of the Bodhisattva Vow  \nOct. 19 (Sunday) 2:30 pm \nRinpoche will be offering the Refuge Vow at the beginning of this session. \nRingu Tulku Rinpoche will bestow the Bodhisattva Vow which is the heart of the Mahayana Buddhist path. It is the affirmation that the root of true happiness and wisdom is bodhicitta\, the resolve to attain enlightenment for the benefit of others. Taking and maintaining the Bodhisattva Vow reinforces bodhicitta. \nIt is customary for those receiving the Bodhisattva vow to bring offerings to the shrine such as fruit\, incense or flowers\, and to offer a kata (traditional white scarf) and monetary gift directly to the Rinpoche bestowing the vows after the ceremony to express sincerity and commitment to cultivating bodhicitta. Please arrive 30 minutes before the start of the ceremony to set up your offerings with the help of the shrine attendant. \nA Body\, Speech & Mind Offering ceremony will be held at the end of Sunday afternoon’s session. DESCRIPTION:The observance of Buddha’s Joyful Day on the full moon day of the seventh lunar month is based on the story of Maudgalyayana\, a disciple of the Buddha\, who discovered through his meditative powers that his mother had been reborn as a hungry ghost. Distressed\, he approached the Buddha for help\, who then advised him to make offerings to the Sangha\, as the merit from doing so would help relieve the suffering of his mother and other beings in the lower realms. Buddha’s Joyful Day is observed by making offerings of necessities to monastics\, reciting sūtras and performing acts of generosity. The merit from these deeds is dedicated to all beings\, especially to relieve the suffering of the deceased. \n  \nAugust 30 (Saturday) \n6:00 am | Thousandfold Lamp Offering (Tong Chö)\nA traditional Tong Chö of 1\,000 butter lamps\, 1\,000 bowls of saffron water and 300 bowls filled with rice\, incense and flowers is offered weekly. \nThe following chanting session is being offered remotely. This is followed by the short liturgy of Shitro (Peaceful and Wrathful Deities)\, a profound practice from the cycle of teachings and meditations of the Tibetan Book of the Dead. It averts obstacles and sickness and is dedicated to those who are dying\, to beings in the Bardo\, and to beings with whom we have karmic debts. \n  \nThis in-person event is also being offered on Zoom. SUMMARY:Study Group on the Ornament of Precious Liberation
DESCRIPTION:This class will be facilitated by Lamas Depa and Lhadrun. Our primary source\, Ornament of Precious Liberation\, by the great master of the Kagyu lineage\, Lord Gampopa\, is considered a spiritual classic of Tibetan Buddhism. HH 17th Karmapa shares in his foreword to the book\, that “this text has the power of a direct transmission from master to student” and that Gampopa himself promised that studying this text would be the same as receiving the teachings directly from him. \nIn order to develop our understanding of this profound work\, we will also be referring to Path to Buddhahood\, a very accessible and illuminating commentary by Ringu Tulku. \nThe books used will be:\nOrnament of Precious Liberation\, translator Ken Holmes\, Wisdom Publications\nPath to Buddhahood\, by Ringu Tulku\, Shambala \nThe material will be screen-shared each class\, so it is not necessary to buy the books. The class is open to all levels of experience\, and anyone is welcome to join at any time without attending previous sessions. There is no charge for participating. \n  \nThese classes are being offered in person and on Zoom.
