SUMMARY:Nyungne Retreat - The Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig
DESCRIPTION:The Maitreya Shrine Room is open to vaccinated day guests. All visitors are required to wear masks. Please note that overnight accommodations are not open to the public at this time. \n  \nThe resident sangha of PTC will be practicing 8 consecutive sets of Nyungne (the Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig). This retreat will be held during the auspicious month of Sakadawa\, the month commemorating the birth\, enlightenment and parinirvana of Shakyamuni Buddha. It is said that\, during this time\, the merit accumulated through performing virtuous activity is multiplied 100\,000 times. \nThe Nyungne practice is a profound kriya tantra meditation ritual based on loving-kindness and compassion in the form of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig.  The practice involves maintaining strict vows and meditating while reciting mantras and prayers\, and performing prostrations and visualizations. Undertaken in sets of two days\, the first day includes one vegetarian meal at noon\, drinking water throughout the day as needed. The second day is a complete fast performed in noble silence. The Nyungne is renowned as a superior means to purify negative karma and accumulate great merit. \nChenrezig himself declared that completing even one Nyungne prevents rebirth in the lower realms\, and the practice of eight consecutive Nyungne leads to birth in Amitabha’s pure land of Dewachen. \n  \nThe dates for each set are as follows:\n\nSet 1   Begins May 30 (Monday) at 5:30 am.  Ends June 1 (Wednesday) about 6:00 am.\nSet 2   Begins June 1 (Wednesday) at 5:00 am.  Ends June 3 (Friday) about 6:00 am.\nSet 3   Begins June 3 (Friday at 5:00 am.  Ends June 5 (Sunday) about 6:00 am.\nSet 4   Begins June 5 (Sunday) at 5:00 am.  Ends June 7 (Tuesday) about 6:00 am.\n
Set 5   Begins June 7 (Tuesday) at 5:00 am.  Ends June 9 (Thursday) about 6:00 am.\n
Set 6   Begins June 9 (Thursday) at 5:00 am.  Ends June 11 (Saturday) about 6:00 am.\n
Set 7   Begins June 11 (Saturday) at 5:00 am.  Ends June 13 (Monday) about 6:00 am.\n
Set 8   Begins June 13 (Monday) at 5:00 am.  Ends June 15 (Wednesday) about 9:30 am. \n\n  \nThere are many ways to share in the merit of this retreat through sponsoring the chanting\, meals and the tea served during the chanting on non fasting days. Be sure to include a prayer with your donation which will be read aloud to the assembly.  \n  \nYou may make your donations on-line or simply mail your tax-deductible contribution to: \nPalpung Thubten Chöling\nAttn: Office\n245 Sheafe Road\, Wappingers Falls\, NY 12590. \n  \nPlease make checks payable to Palpung Thubten Choling or PTC. SUMMARY:Commemoration of Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche’s Parinirvana and Mother's Day
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Maitreya Shrine Room is open to visitors. All visitors are required to wear masks. Please note that accommodations remain closed to the public. \n  \nThe resident sangha of PTC will be commemorating the anniversary of our root lama Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche‘s parinirvana — the day he left his body and entered the Pure Realms. \nAnd to honor all mothers (past\, present\, and future!) we will be chanting the short practice of Green Tara\, who is often referred to as “The Mother of Liberation\,” and is known for her swift activity in dispelling fears\, obstacles and illness. The merit accumulated through participating in this inspiring practice will be dedicated to the countless beings who have been our mothers since beginningless time. \n  \nSchedule of events: \n6:30am | Thousandfold Lamp Offering (Tong Chö) \nA traditional Tong Chö of 1\,000 butter lamps\, 1\,000 bowls of saffron water and 300 bowls filled with rice\, incense and flowers is offered weekly\, accompanied by chanting of the Chenrezig practice. \n  \nThe next chanting sessions are being offered remotely on Zoom. For information on how to join us via ZOOM\, please click here. \n10:00am | Kalu Rinpoche’s Practice of Aspiration Prayers (Monlam Choga)\, followed by the Short Practice of the Peaceful & Wrathful Deities (Shitro) \nChanting of the Monlam Choga\, a practice of offering and aspiration prayers compiled by Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche. This is followed by the short liturgy of Shitro (Peaceful and Wrathful Deities)\, a profound practice from the cycle of teachings and meditations of the Tibetan Book of the Dead. We dedicate this practice to the deceased in order to purify negativities\, avert obstacles in the bardo\, and establish a connection with the deities that will ripen in future lives. \n1:30 pm | Chanting of Green Tara  \n  \nThere are many ways to share in the merit of these activities through sponsoring the chanting\, the tea served during the chanting\, meals\, and the offering of butter lamps. Be sure to include a prayer with your donation which will be read aloud to the assembly.  \nYou may make your donations on-line or simply mail your tax-deductible contribution to: \nPalpung Thubten Chöling\nAttn: Office\n245 Sheafe Road\, Wappingers Falls\, NY 12590. \nPlease make checks payable to Palpung Thubten Choling or PTC.
