SUMMARY:Nyungne Retreat - The Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig
DESCRIPTION:The Maitreya Shrine Room is open to vaccinated day guests. All visitors are required to wear masks. Please note that overnight accommodations are not open to the public at this time. \n  \nThe resident sangha of PTC will be practicing 8 consecutive sets of Nyungne (the Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig). This retreat will be held during the auspicious month of Sakadawa\, the month commemorating the birth\, enlightenment and parinirvana of Shakyamuni Buddha. It is said that\, during this time\, the merit accumulated through performing virtuous activity is multiplied 100\,000 times. \nThe Nyungne practice is a profound kriya tantra meditation ritual based on loving-kindness and compassion in the form of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig.  The practice involves maintaining strict vows and meditating while reciting mantras and prayers\, and performing prostrations and visualizations. Undertaken in sets of two days\, the first day includes one vegetarian meal at noon\, drinking water throughout the day as needed. The second day is a complete fast performed in noble silence. The Nyungne is renowned as a superior means to purify negative karma and accumulate great merit. \nChenrezig himself declared that completing even one Nyungne prevents rebirth in the lower realms\, and the practice of eight consecutive Nyungne leads to birth in Amitabha’s pure land of Dewachen. \n  \nThe dates for each set are as follows:\n\nSet 1   Begins May 30 (Monday) at 5:30 am.  Ends June 1 (Wednesday) about 6:00 am.\nSet 2   Begins June 1 (Wednesday) at 5:00 am.  Ends June 3 (Friday) about 6:00 am.\nSet 3   Begins June 3 (Friday at 5:00 am.  Ends June 5 (Sunday) about 6:00 am.\nSet 4   Begins June 5 (Sunday) at 5:00 am.  Ends June 7 (Tuesday) about 6:00 am.\n

If you would like to participate\, please click here. \n  \nThe sangha of PTC will be making prayers and offerings for our parents\, ancestors\, and the deceased through a special recitation of the Amitabha sadhana with tsok offerings and aspiration prayers for the well being of ourselves and all other beings\, especially those to whom we dedicate the practice by name\, both living and deceased. \nThe practice entitled ‘Jangchok’ will be included within the chanting of the Amitabha sadhana.  Jangchok is done for the benefit of the recently deceased to achieve liberation.  For persons who may have passed away a long time ago the Jangchok practice will still bring great blessings to the deceased and create the causes and conditions for the liberation of the person.  For the living\, it is said that once their karmic debtors are liberated through this practice\, the person will have less obstacles.  For all beings\, this practice will help to create favorable conditions and enhance their well-being. \nDuring the chanting Lama Tsering Dakpa will bless and burn all the names of the deceased to symbolize purification of their defilements\, obscurities and negative karma by the fire of wisdom\, ripening their merit to be reborn in Amitabha’s pureland of Dewachen. DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that the Maitreya Shrine Room is now open to visitors. Visitors are required to wear masks. Please note that the dining room and accommodations remain closed to the public. \n  \nIn honor of Chötrul Duchen\, the full moon of the Month of the Buddha’s Miracles when\, for fifteen days\, the Buddha displayed miracles\, we will be offering 1\,000 butterlamps (as part of our weekly Tong Chö) and chanting the Milarepa tsok and Milarepa Doha. These practices and prayers are dedicated to world peace\, especially in Ukraine\, and to an end to all sickness. \nOn this very auspicious day\, it is said\, your merit will be multiplied ten million times. Please join us for the chanting and/or sponsoring the chanting. \n  \n6:30 am | Thousandfold Lamp Offering (Tong Chö)\nA traditional Tong Chö of 1\,000 butter lamps\, 1\,000 bowls of saffron water and 300 bowls filled with rice\, incense and flowers accompanied by chanting of the Chenrezig practice. \n  \nThe next chanting sessions are being offered remotely on Zoom. If you would like to participate please click here. \n  \n9:30 am | Kalu Rinpoche’s Practice of Aspiration Prayers (Monlam Choga)\, followed by the Short Practice of the Peaceful & Wrathful Deities (Shitro)\nChanting of the Monlam Choga\, a practice of offering and aspiration prayers compiled by Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche. This is followed by the short liturgy of Shitro (Peaceful and Wrathful Deities)\, a profound practice from the cycle of teachings and meditations of the Tibetan Book of the Dead. We dedicate this practice to the deceased in order to purify negativities\, avert obstacles in the bardo\, and establish a connection with the deities that will ripen in future lives \nTo join the chanting please download Kalu Rinpoche’s Practice of Aspiration Prayers (Monlam Choga). \n  \n1:30 pm | Chanting of Milarepa Practice with Feast Offering (Tsok)\nMilarepa is the most beloved yogi and poet of Tibet and one of the forefathers of the Kagyu lineage revered for his inspirational life story and profound songs of realization. The Guru Yoga of Milarepa is an essential practice of the Kagyu lineage in which the transmission of devotion becomes the basis of Mahamudra. \n  \nThere are many ways to share in the merit of these activities through sponsoring the chanting\, the tea served during the chanting\, meals\, and the offering of butter lamps.
