Buddhahood is the state in which one spontaneously and effortlessly benefits oneself and all beings without exception. In order to attain this state, we must perfect the accumulations of merit and wisdom. Through the perfection of the two accumulations, we purify our notions of self and other and realize the true nature of mind.
Below is a schedule of the day’s events, some of which you can participate in remotely. For information on how to join us via ZOOM, please click here.
9:45 am | Sponsoring of tormas, water bowls and flowers on the shrine; lighting of butterlamps
11:00 am | Chanting of Six-Armed White Mahakala sadhana
White Mahakala is a powerful deity that emanated from the compassion of Chenrezig to dispel the spiritual and material poverty of sentient beings. The White Mahakala practice enhances good fortune in all aspects of life and eliminates obstacles to prosperity and growth.
12:30 pm | Lunch
1:45 pm | Circumambulation of Stupa (no zoom)
2:30 pm | Sür, Evening Fire Offering Ceremony
Sür (evening fire offering ceremony) is an offering to the 4 guests: the Buddhas & Bodhisattvas; Protectors; sentient beings; and those with whom we have karmic debts. It averts obstacles and sickness and is dedicated to those who are dying, beings in the Bardo, and to beings with whom we have karmic debts.
There are many ways to share in the merit of these activities through the offering of butter lamps, sponsoring the chanting, the tea served during the chanting, lunch and the fire ceremony.
